An alarming report presented by the Conference of Bishops last week reveals that more than 4,000 churches in France suffer from major structural issues, ranging from cracks to collapsed roofs. The startup Feelbat is helping to preserve this endangered heritage with its innovative sensors. Example with a chapel in Auriol.
Monitor the chapel during the construction work
As part of the restoration of a historic chapel in Auriol, near Marseille, Feelbat installed DELTA L+ and DELTA R sensors to monitor the evolution of cracks and wall movements throughout the 18-month construction period.
This instrumentation, managed by experts, enables continuous monitoring through remotely connected sensors, with analysis reports generated every three months.
Thanks to the technology provided by Feelbat, the company responsible for the repairs can work safely while preserving this invaluable monument for the city. These tools provide precise data to anticipate deterioration, understand the structure’s response to stress, and detect issues before they become severe and costly. This monitoring also ensures visitor safety by preventing the construction work from causing new structural issues.
Significant Data Collected
Installed inside the chapel, one of the sensors detected a gradual increase in movements starting in September, peaking in December. These observations, combined with temperature variation monitoring, provide valuable insights into how climatic conditions affect the structure, allowing for adjustments to the restoration work accordingly.
Tools tailored to various needs
Feelbat is not limited to religious buildings. Its technology can be used for:
- Bridges and railway infrastructures
- Buildings under renovation or construction
- Complex structures requiring precise and reliable monitoring
Thanks to this technology, restoration companies, local authorities, and experts can work in secure conditions while ensuring the longevity of monuments. By enabling continuous monitoring, Feelbat also helps prevent serious and costly damage, ensuring that repairs do not cause further structural issues.
